What if there is a problem after I fly home?

What is normal after veneers, crowns or implants, which signs need a doctor, how follow-up from Antalya works and what your dentist at home can do.

What is normal in the first weeks?

Some changes are part of healing and settle on their own. After veneers or crowns, the bite can feel slightly different for a few days while you get used to the new shape, and teeth that were prepared can be sensitive to cold. The gum around new restorations can be a little tender. After implant surgery, swelling peaks on the second or third day and then fades, and you may see some bruising.

As a rule, normal symptoms improve day by day. Your written aftercare instructions describe what to expect for your treatment, what to eat, and how to clean while things settle.

Which signs need a doctor?

Contact us if you notice any of these:

  1. Pain that gets worse after the first few days, or wakes you at night
  2. Swelling that increases after day three, or a bad taste or discharge
  3. A veneer or crown that feels loose, or a sharp edge that cuts the tongue
  4. A bite that still feels high after a week, so that one tooth touches first
  5. An implant crown that moves, or a temporary tooth that has come off
  6. Bleeding that does not stop with gentle pressure

If you have a high temperature, swelling that spreads to the eye or the neck, or difficulty swallowing or breathing, go to an emergency service where you are, straight away, and tell us afterwards.

How does follow-up from Antalya work?

You send a message and a photo on WhatsApp, and the doctor who treated you answers. A good photo shows a lot: the gum, the edge of a veneer, how the teeth meet. Many questions are answered this way, with advice on what to do next.

If something needs hands-on care, we decide the next step together. Small things, such as polishing a sharp edge or adjusting the bite, can usually be done by a dentist near you. Larger things, such as remaking a restoration, are planned with you: what is covered by our aftercare, under which conditions, and where the work is done.

What can your dentist at home do?

More than people expect. With your records, a dentist anywhere can check the fit, take an X-ray, polish or adjust a restoration, re-cement a crown that has come loose, tighten a loose implant screw, and clean around implants. This is why we give you everything in writing:

Established implant systems have parts that dentists in most countries can order, which makes maintenance at home possible.

What does aftercare cover?

Our aftercare is set out in writing in the aftercare terms: which treatments it covers, for how long, what is included, what is not, and the conditions, such as regular check-ups and wearing a night guard if one was advised. Read them before you book, and ask about anything that is unclear. A clinic that cannot show you its terms in writing before treatment is a reason to pause.

How can you lower the risk of problems?

Most problems after treatment abroad come from plans that were rushed or changed too much tooth. A few questions before you book help:

Our guide with twelve questions to ask any clinic abroad goes further.

What helps at home in the long run?

Regular check-ups with your dentist, daily cleaning between the teeth, and a night guard if you grind. Our guides on caring for veneers and crowns and how long they last explain the routine. If anything changes, a photo on WhatsApp is the first step.

Questions

Who do I contact if something feels wrong after I get home?

You send a message and a photo on WhatsApp, and the doctor who treated you answers. Many questions can be settled from a photo. If you need to be seen, we arrange the next step with you, either a visit to a dentist near you with your records or a visit to us.

Is sensitivity after veneers or crowns normal?

Some sensitivity to cold for a few days or weeks is common, especially after preparation. It should get better, not worse. Sensitivity that increases, throbbing pain, or pain that wakes you at night needs a doctor's opinion.

Can my dentist at home help with work done in Turkey?

Yes, for most things. With your records (the plan, X-rays, scans, materials and implant details), a dentist anywhere can check, adjust, clean and repair. That is why you should leave with every detail in writing.
